January 25, 2024–By the time this statement appears in print, the International Court of Justice will likely have delivered its decision on the South African Application filed on December 29, 2023 with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) charging Israel with the crime of Genocide against the people of Gaza. Whatever the decision of the court, I believe South Africa’s action was correct, and I want it known that as a candidate for United States Senator, that I agree fundamentally with their position.

20,000 killed. Thousands under the rubble still. Close to 9,000 children killed in the most brutal ways. Day after day after day. 1.9 million displaced! Hundreds of thousands of homes were destroyed. Gaza as we know it no longer exists. This is an annihilation. A genocide.

Hamas warriors slaughtered up to 1,400 Israelis on October 7. Almost 3,000 Americans died on September 11, 2001. While it may not compare to hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths in Iraq (2003-06) or many other locations of darker-skinned peoples (and while it falls short of the slaughter of Palestinians over the last two weeks), it still is horrendous.
